paula modersohn-becker（1876-1907）是德国表现主义艺术的代表人物，亦是迄今已知第一位创作裸体自画像的女性画家。她在短暂的一生中创作逾700幅绘画和1000幅素描，许多作品都以她自己的怀孕为主题，在西方女性艺术家范围内被认为是极具革新性的创举。
这是美国首次专门为 paula modersohn-becker 举办回顾展，展览标题「我就是我」（ich bin ich）取自1906年艺术家本人写给好友、德国诗人 rainer maria rilke 的信件，表达了艺术家对自我身份的坚定认同感。
